Black Ice Puppies - Owner & Trainer Testimonials

"GABBIE"

On August 27, 2011 Marc Hudson, Gabbie's owner wrote, "Gabby is 4 months old now, weighs 35 pounds and full of energy. She loves the water and we can not keep her out of the pool. My wife has worn spots on her cheeks from kisses. She is doing the things you would expect with her level of intelligence. She has all of the basic commands down and is lining well and doing multiple marks. She is very independent and the good news is she does not have a shortage of brains. Thanks Black Ice Retrievers!

On December 20, 2012 Marc Hudson wrote, "Gabby is doing very well. Yes, she is with Clint Avant, the best Derby trainer in the country in my opinion. Clint has had nothing but good things to say about her. Coming from Clint that speaks volumes! His comment was that so far he really likes everything about her. She will compete in Derby's in the spring of 2012. Thanks again! Regards, Marc

CP, SHR Black Ice's Super Sonic Scooter JH" that's
a mouth full of titles for a 6 month old

Yes, we kept a Fox Red male from this litter which we named "Scooter". Now at a year old he looks exactly like his Grandpa. The famous AFC FC Calumet's Super Sonic "Soupie" who earned his MH & QAA titles at just 18 months of age.

Well watch out Grandpa because this apple in "Black Ice's Super Sonic Scooter" didn't fall far from the tree. Scooter is already an amazing talent. He was pointing birds before he turned 7 weeks of age. I gun broke this pup at 11 weeks of age. Before he turned 3 months old he had pointed and retrieved to hand well over 100 shot quail.

Scooter passed his first HRC Hunt Test at the young age of just 4 months. That's right! Scooter passed his first 4 Hunt Tests in a row and received his first Hunt Test Title "SHR" at just 5 months of age. Scooter also passed his CP APLA Hunt Test at this same young age before moving on to his AKC Junior Hunt Tests. Scooter passed 4 AKC Junior Hunt Test in as many weekends and yes he earned his AKC JH Test Title at 6 months of age.

Scooter passed 9 Hunt Tests in the spring of 2009 across the H.R.C, A.P.L.A. & A.K.C. all at the very young age of just 6 months or younger!!!

Then in early September of 2009 at the young age of 10 months Scooter earned his "Advanced" APLA title while being perfectly steady to Wing & Shot. No small feat by anyone's standards for a 10 month old.

In mid September, to take advantage of the warmer waters the South offers, Scooter moved south. He then worked with Rusty Haglund and Bobby Purser of Trigger Time and WebFoot Kennels, respectively.

So what do these two pro trainers think of Scooter now that they have worked with him over the past 2 months?

"A trainer waits their entire career to train just one really super talented dog, and Black Ice's Super Sonic "Scooter" is that talent for me." ... Bobby Purser

Scooter at age two had earned all the following:
  • 1st HRC SHR pass at 4 months
  • SHR HRC Title at 5 months
  • APLA CPR Title at 6 months
  • AKC JH Title at 6 months
  • APLA APR Title at 10 months
  • AKC SH Title at 17 months passing 4 tests in a row
  • AKC MH 1st pass at 18 months
  • AKC MH Title at 21 months
  • MHR Title at 22 months
  • APLA GMPR title at 22 months
  • QAA at just 2 years of age

Scooter is the youngest dog on record to earn his QAA, MPR, GMPR & AKC MH titles and he earned all this 12 months younger than any dog on record. WOW!!!

On October 1, 2011 Mark Edwards, "I have had the pleasure of training Scooter now for the last 4 months. He is one of the most intelligent dogs I have ever trained. When I can get the exact correction I need on Scooter, he never forgets. He has never ever made the same mistake twice. I have only seen two other dogs in my entire life that have this gift, this level of superior intelligence. The sky is the limit for Scooter.

I asked Mark if he owned Scooter what his plans would be for him. Mark said, "I would go on and get his FC and AFC titles. At just two years of age,Scooter as a great Field Trial future ahead of him. If he continues to stay healthy there are certainly no limits in what he can accomplish." Scooter runs in his first All Age Open event on 3/2/12.

Black Ice's They Call Me Trigger Times Mr. Neko SH MH

"What else can I say..., I have now owned two pups from Black Ice the foundational bitch of Black Ice Retrievers. These dogs are the most intelligent, easiest pups to train I have ever seen. Consider this, NEKO past his 2nd & 3rd AKC Master Hunt Tests and earned his AKC SH Title in the same weekend. Neko ran 8 perfect series (6 MH series & 2 SH series) in a single weekend & pinned every mark. This says a great deal about both the maturity & intelligence of Neko. Not too bad for a 16 month old. Thanks Chris for such an outstanding dog." Rusty Haglund Pro trainer & owner of Trigger Time Kennels.

Neko is now available at stud. He weighs just 60 lbs and measures only 181/2 inches tall at the whithers. AKC Agility competitors, you won't find a smarter, faster, shorter black male lab. Please call Rusty directly if you are serious about wanting to breed to Neko. Rusty's cell is (612) 232 3681, Rusty and Neko reside in Gobber TX, but they summer in MN. (Roughly from Memorial Day - Labor Day each year)

ROCKET

I would like to say a few words about my Black Ice pup that I purchased from Black ice retrievers on DEC 24, 2008 .

This is the third Labrador pup I have personally owned and raised from a young pup and I can tell you that he has been a joy to have! We have had other dogs but we were amazed at how fast this dog picks up on training. Rocket started going outside for potty training the second day we owned him and if you remember that would December 25, 2008 with Illinois winter going on we had him going out side for the most part by New Years Eve. Wow! That was fast! We even skipped the paper in the kitchen routine. How's that for trainable?

The real truly amazing thing about my Ice pup, Rocket is his willingness to learn you practically only show the dog one time what you want and he starts doing it!

Rocket has by far exceeded my expectations and only amazes me on a daily basis. He is also our pet. The kids play with him every day they walk him in our unfenced yard every day and he has learned to climb the ladders to the kids play set and slide down the slide. The kids taught him that. At night the kids fall a sleep on the living room floor with their pride and joy, Rocket.

At just 7 months old Rocket was entered in the Mid-Illinois Retriever Club AKC Junior Hunt test. Rocket was the youngest dog to compete that weekend. Rocket was one of 7 dogs who made through the first cut. This was very cool because this was out of 15 dogs up to the age and this was my first competition as a owner /handler.

Rocket was amazing. He picked up the two marked retrieves on the water almost as fast as he did on the land. Rocket received his first AKC ribbon and pass on fathers day June 21, 2009.

At 8 months old we were already working on doubles and triples with hand signals out to 100-150 yards and he is starting to do these with a single blind in there for fun.

His pointing is totally natural and any chance he gets to point game he does. His drive to retrieve is unexplainable he will keep going until he dies and I believe that.

All I can say is whether you're a pro trainer or an inexperienced trainer I highly recommend a pup from Reno's Black Ice ... Chris Passo

Sniper is currently in training for the upcoming fall hunt test season. I just finished up force fetching and he is currently doing handling drills at just 8 months of age. In the field he is doing multiple marks in land and water. Sniper is one of the most intense and easy to train puppies I have ever had the pleasure to work with. He runs his marks with such drive that he makes it look simple.

Sniper has an incredible nose. I have witnessed him wind a bird in a 80 degree day at about 50 yards. I've seen other puppies do the same thing as him but there was something different with Sniper. He actually trusted his nose and pointed and flushed the bird. He is pretty confident when it comes to his sense of smell. Something you don't find in young dogs At months old I ran him in a bird dog challenge event and he took a 2nd in the top gun pro class, and 1st in the puppy class.

Sniper has the drive like no other puppy I've ever seen. He is one of the easiest puppies I have ever trained. I'm very happy with Sniper. In fact I am buying a second pup from this paring. He is everything and more that I was looking for a dog. He is always willing to please. When he hits the ground he is ready to work. He loves his training ... Rusty Haglund (Pro Trainer & Owner of Trigger Time Kennels)
