Black Ice Puppies and Testimonials
I would like to say a few words about my Black Ice pup that I purchased from Black ice retrievers on DEC 24, 2008 .
This is the third Labrador pup I have personally owned and raised from a young pup and I can tell you that he has been a joy to have! We have had other dogs but we were amazed at how fast this dog picks up on training. Rocket started going outside for potty training the second day we owned him and if you remember that would December 25, 2008 with Illinois winter going on we had him going out side for the most part by New Years Eve. Wow! That was fast! We even skipped the paper in the kitchen routine. How's that for trainable?
The real truly amazing thing about my Ice pup, Rocket is his willingness to learn you practically only show the dog one time what you want and he starts doing it!
Rocket has by far exceeded my expectations and only amazes me on a daily basis. He is also our pet. The kids play with him every day they walk him in our unfenced yard every day and he has learned to climb the ladders to the kids play set and slide down the slide. The kids taught him that. At night the kids fall a sleep on the living room floor with their pride and joy, Rocket.
At just 7 months old Rocket was entered in the Mid-Illinois Retriever Club AKC Junior Hunt test. Rocket was the youngest dog to compete that weekend. Rocket was one of 7 dogs who made through the first cut. This was very cool because this was out of 15 dogs up to the age and this was my first competition as a owner /handler.
Rocket was amazing. He picked up the two marked retrieves on the water almost as fast as he did on the land. Rocket received his first AKC ribbon and pass on fathers day June 21, 2009.
At 8 months old we were already working on doubles and triples with hand signals out to 100-150 yards and he is starting to do these with a single blind in there for fun.
His pointing is totally natural and any chance he gets to point game he does. His drive to retrieve is unexplainable he will keep going until he dies and I believe that.
All I can say is whether you're a pro trainer or an inexperienced trainer I highly recommend a pup from Reno's Black Ice ... Chris Passo
Sniper is currently in training for the upcoming fall hunt test season. I just finished up force fetching and he is currently doing handling drills at just 8 months of age. In the field he is doing multiple marks in land and water. Sniper is one of the most intense and easy to train puppies I have ever had the pleasure to work with. He runs his marks with such drive that he makes it look simple.
Sniper has a incredible nose. I have witnessed him wind a bird in a 80 degree day at about 50 yards. I've seen other puppies do the same thing as him but there was something different with Sniper. He actually trusted his nose and pointed and flushed the bird. He is pretty confident when it comes to his sense of smell. Something you don't find in young dogs At months old I ran him in a bird dog challenge event and he took a 2nd in the top gun pro class, and 1st in the puppy class.
Sniper has the drive like no other puppy I've ever seen. He is one of the easiest puppies I have ever trained. I'm very happy with Sniper. In fact I am buying a second pup from this paring. He is everything and more that I was looking for a dog. He is always willing to please. When he hits the ground he is ready to work. He loves his training ... CP, SHR Black Ice's Super Sonic Scooter JH" that's
a mouth full of titles for a 6 month old
Yes, we kept a Fox Red male from this litter which we named "Scooter". Now at a year old he looks exactly like his Grandpa. The famous AFC FC Calumet's Super Sonic "Soupie" who earned his MH & QAA titles at just 18 months of age.
Well watch out Grandpa because this apple in "Black Ice's Super Sonic Scooter" didn't fall far from the tree. Scooter is already an amazing talent. He was pointing birds before he turned 7 weeks of age. I gun broke this pup at 11 weeks of age. Before he turned 3 months old he had pointed and retrieved to hand well over 100 shot quail.
Scooter passed his first HRC Hunt Test at the young age of just 4 months. That's right! Scooter passed his first 4 Hunt Tests in a row and received his first Hunt Test Title "SHR" at just 5 months of age. Scooter also passed his CP APLA Hunt Test at this same young age before moving on to his AKC Junior Hunt Tests. Scooter passed 4 AKC Junior Hunt Test in as many weekends and yes he earned his AKC JH Test Title before he turned 7 months of age.
Scooter passed 9 Hunt Tests in the spring of 2009 across the H.R.C, A.P.L.A. & A.K.C. all at the very young age of just 6 months or younger!!!
Then in early September of 2009 at the young age of 10 months Scooter earned his "Advanced" APLA title. No small feat by anyone's standards.
In mid September, to take advantage of the warmer waters the South offers, Scooter moved south. He is now working with Rusty Haglund and Bobby Purser of Trigger Time and WebFoot Kennels, respectively.
So what do these two pro trainers think of Scooter now that they have worked with him over the past 2 months?
"A trainer waits their entire career to train just one really super talented dog, and Black Ice's Super Sonic "Scooter" is that talent for me." ... Bobby Purser
